Barravento
Wie so viele Rhythmen, habe ich auch den Barravento irgendwann einmal gelernt, und dann erst mal "abgelegt". Wieder ausgegraben, stellte ich fest, dass ich zwei recht verschiedene Versionen dieses Rhythmus habe - uns sehr wenig Informationen. Die hier vorgestellte Version habe ich Herman Kathan zu verdanken, einem hervorragenden Trommler und Lehrer, bei dem ich viele Jahre gelernt habe.
Und hier das wenige, was ich herausgefunden habe:
Barravento - (gesprochen Bahavento) - der Name hat wohl mit Wind zu tun, oder mit der Seite aus der der Wind weht. So ist der Deutsche Titel des Films "Barravento" von Glauber Rocha "Der Sturm".
Es ist anscheinend ein Rhythmus aus dem Umfeld des Candomblé (Brasilianisch-Afrikanische Kult- und Trancemusik). Mittlerweile wird er wohl auch in der Capoeira-Musik gespielt, wo der Rhythmus aber nicht beheimatet ist.

Maculele (rhythm Congo and Barravento)
A warrior dance from the Sugar Cane fields in Brazil. Sometimes performed with machetes, often performed with sticks. Two dancers face off, as they dance they strike their sticks together in time of the music. Maculele has Bantu roots, and like capoeira is a form of defense, disguised as a dance. Maculele ist performed on 3 or more drums (Atabaques) and a bell. The two types of rhythms used of this funktion are called Congo and Barravento.
